Residential Services
InReach understands that affordable, stable housing in a safe neighborhood is a priority for individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities. Their residential services are designed to support individuals in the most independent setting that meets their needs. InReach’s long-term association with the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), allows them to offer Section 811 subsidized housing to help meet these needs.
Group Homes
InReach operates 14 group homes in neighborhoods located throughout Charlotte, NC. Each home is licensed by the NC Division of Health Service Regulation and provides a home-like environment for three to six adults ages 18 and up. HUD provided funding to build 13 of these fully accessible homes. The individuals in group homes have various intellectual and developmental disabilities including Down Syndrome, cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, deafness and similar conditions. Each individual receives regular instruction in independent living skills like personal care, shopping, cooking, housekeeping, and accessing community services. People living in these group homes regularly participate in activities away from home. Those may include working, attending school or vocational training, volunteering, and participating in recreational activities.
Independent Community Housing
InReach manages one- and two-bedroom condominiums and apartments in Charlotte financed through the HUD Section 811 program for individuals with developmental disabilities. Rent includes all utilities except cable and telephone, and is equal to one third of the tenant’s income. Staff support and supervision is available through InReach or other area resources. There is a waiting list for these condominiums and apartments. Interested individuals may be added to the waiting list by requesting an application from the InReach office at 704-536-6661.
Supervised Living Residential
Supervised Living Residential (SLR) provides community living skills instruction to individuals residing in their own apartments, condominiums or homes, and their daily routines incorporate activities typical of others living in the community. Staff visit each person regularly and are available 24 hours a day as needed. InReach tailors the social and adaptive skills to the level necessary for each individual to reside in the least restrictive and most normalized community-based residential setting possible.
